Two lectures presented at the HYPER Symposium in Paris, November 4 - 6, 2002.

Claus Lämmerzahl: OPTIS - Scientific Goals and Mission Concept.
After some remarks on the HYPER mission the general features and scientific objectives of the OPTIS mission are presented. Also the orbit and the gravity induced distortion of the cavities are disussed.

Stephan Schiller: OPTIS - Progress report.
The results of studies on the scientific payload are reported. Also a description on recent laboratory tests of Special Relativity is given.
